Most of the studio paintings were derived from plein air paintings or sketches.  Some were done entirely from photographs at those times that I did not have my paints or had insufficient time to paint at the scene.

These are works made during my four trips to France.

 The first was a wonderful stay of nine days at the Chateau Balleroy in Normandy, France.  It is one of the Forbes estates and was followed by a show at the Forbes Galleries in New York. 

 The second and third trips were to the town of Quimiac in Brittany, France.  One was an exploratory trip and the second was a teaching trip.

The fourth trip was a wonderful ride on a barge type boat  on the Marne-Rhine Canal in the Alsace-Lorraine area of eastern France.  We ended that trip in Strasburg.

I made two trips to Italy.  The first was to Florence and Sienna before finally settling down to paint at the small towns of Vagliagli and Radda.

The last trip was to Barga, a walled city in the mountains north of Florence.  I was part of a group of 15 artists invited by the city to literally paint the town for three joyous weeks.  We were covered by TV stations and had a show at the Museo Sale della Memoria.
